Mr. Gedion G. Jalata is Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Center of Excellence International Consult (CEIC) based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia since January 2018. Prior to that Gedion was the Program Manager of the Africa-China Partnership and Economic Justice including the Mining Sector, Financing for Development and Climate Smart Agriculture at Oxfam International Pan Africa Office based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from January 2016 to December 2017. He also worked with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) where he served more than 8 years as a research consultant at the Capacity Development Division (CDD), Macroeconomic Policy Division (MPD), Governance and Public Administration Division (GPAD) on policy issues related to economic development and governance, the mining sector, capacity development, public administration, anti-corruption, and illicit financial flows and China/BRICS relations with Africa from 2008 to 2015. In particular, Gedion worked on ECA’s flagship reports namely the African Governance Reports (AGR II, III and IV), published by Oxford University Press; the Mutual Review of Development Effectiveness (MRDE) Report; AU and ECA High-Level Panel’s Report on Illicit Financial Flows.
Gedion authored and co-authored numerous journal articles, research papers and chapters in a book. In this regard, Gedion has got an award for academic excellence from the United States Africa Centre for Strategic Studies and other institutions. Gedion also worked as a lecturer of political science, international relations, and social science courses in government and private Universities in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 2005 to 2008. He holds a Masters’ Degree in International Relations (thesis: Ethiopia and China relations and got excellent standing) and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Relations. Currently, he is also doing his PhD at the University of Pretoria (UP) and his PhD dissertation is an African Developmental State: Ethiopia’s Emergent Experience.
